Green boards with gilt writing on front and on spine. The boards and binding are solid and tight with little shelf-wear. The pages and illustrations are crisp and clean save for a spot stain on top of pages 32 and 33. A wonderful first edition, first printing tome on the game of chess by a leading 19th-century master.
