Includes more than 1000 full-page engravings and lithographs, some with signatures, of Georgia historical figures. Dark green cloth boards with gilt titles on spines. Marbled endpapers and text block. In very good condition: tight binding; bumped and rubbed corners; light shelfwear to boards; text is clean and unmarked save owner's name on endpapers. Comprehensive and richly illustrated history of Georgia from 1732-1926. Volume I includes historical narratives; the remaining volumes contain biographies of important historical figures and personalities. Pages per volume: 728; 679; 679; 685. Howell was a politician who began as a writer at his father's Atlanta Constitution alongside Henry Grady and Joel Chandler Harris. He was later editor and owner of the paper, and won a Pulitzer Prize. A very handsome, and very clean full first-edition set.
