Book Details + Condition: Scarce first edition from 1889 of "The Last Voyage To India and Australia in the Sunbeam," by Lady Annie Brassey. The book contains two folding maps, frontispiece, pictorial title page, 19 plates, illustrations to the text. Thick 8vo., original dark blue boards, gilt on front and on spine. In Very Good condition: tight and solid binding; minor shelfwear; slight wear to corners and spine ends. Author's monogram in gilt to the spine and upper cover. Lady Brassey died on this voyage and was buried at sea, at the age of 47 in 1887. She and her husband (a Member of Parliament and accomplished sailor) traveled extensively on their yacht "Sunbeam," and Annie's lively books about their adventures found an eager audience. The book recounts travels in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia. Lady Brassey and her husband are said to have made the first circumnavigation of the world by a private yacht.
