"A history of the Southern States designed to record the South's part in the making of the American Nation; to portray the character and genius, to chronicle in achievements and progress and to illustrate the life and traditions of the southern people."

A very scarce, complete 13-volume limited edition set of "The South in the Building of a Nation" from 1909. This limited edition of 500 sets has a special 13th volume, not included in other sets. The set is softcover leather and gilt boards, with embossed gold on front and spine, and with marble end papers. Three-sided gilt pages. Colored photogravures and reproductions of photos and art dealing with the South present throughout all volumes. Two professionally rebound hardcover volumes are present in this set. For all volumes, the boards and bindings are solid and tight. All volumes have light rubbing and shelf-wear as well as library card catalog numbers on the lower part of the spine (from Emory University). Volumes 1,3,7,8 have minor chipping to the top of the spine. Emory University Library bookplates on the inside boards and corresponding end papers are present. All pages are crisp and clean save for special notations; please see below for detailed listing on conditions of the specific volumes.
