The Town; Its Memorable Characters and Events ~ by James Henry Leigh Hunt ~ First Edition / First Printing, 1848 ~ TWO VOLUMES, Includes Handwritten Letter (Hunt)

Publisher: Smith, Elder and Co., London (1848)

First edition of THE TOWN; ITS MEMORABLE CHARACTERS AND EVENTS from 1848 by James Henry Leigh Hunt. Two volumes in three-quarter leather binding and marbled boards. Both volumes illustrated and in overall excellent condition. The boards and binding are solid and tight with little shelf-wear. The pages are crisp and clean. Small stamp of William P. Pope on first blank page (of each volume), and previous owner's ex libris Lord Farum or Henry Maxwell Farnum plate on inside front board of each volume. Research shows he was a member of Parliament and English noble (1799 - 1868). A handwritten letter is attached to the front endpaper on the second volume. The letter is dated either 1836 or 1856 and relates to Leigh Hunt. Due to the provenance, it could be a letter by Leigh Hunt, but we cannot verify.
