THE HERMETIC WORKS: THE VIRGIN OF THE WORLD OF HERMES MERCURIUS TRISMEGISTUS
Book Details + Condition: Wizards Bookshelf (San Diego, CA), 1987. Hardcover. 187 pages. Illustrated. Originally translated and edited by Anna Bonus Kingsford and Edward Maitland in 1885, the work is a foundational Western esoteric text presenting ancient Hermetic teachings. The core text (Kore Kosmu) is framed as a sacred dialogue between the goddess Isis and her son Horus, where she imparts the hidden wisdom of Hermes Trismegistus. It explains how the physical universe was patterned after divine archetypes, with inferior elements and human souls fashioned by lower planetary spirits and administrators under the Supreme Creator. Human souls were originally created as pure celestial beings, but due to disobedience or misuse of their freedom in early governance, they were bound into physical human bodies as a form of discipline and education. The book details the belief that higher divine beings and instructors came from the heavens to guide early humanity out of chaos and establish civilization, arts, and sacred law.
