Book Details + Condition: Very scarce first edition from 1865. By A.T.C. Pierson. Masonic Publishing Company (New York). 164 pages with a few in-text black-and-white illustrations. Royal blue boards with black illustration on front. Three-quarters leather binding with gilt on all sides. From the title page: "An elaborate account of the traditions which form the basis of the degrees in Freemasonry, and their coincidence with the Ancient Mysteries; also, the origin of the Society of Operative Masons and it transformation into a speculative fraternity; with a brief history of the order, and its rituals and customs." Contents: Entered Apprentice; Fellow Craft; Master Mason; Past Master; Most Excellent Master; Royal Arch. Overall a solid, clean copy: Bumped and rubbed corners; rubbed edges; black bookbinding tape on spine; interior hinges cracked but binding remains very tight; slight chipping to decorated endpapers (with small tear on front endpaper); text is clean and unmarked.
