The book was owned by Ethel Clayton, a well-known silent movie star of the early 20th century. She has signed the book on the front free endpaper. In addition, the book chronicles her trip to Egypt in 1913 with an original photograph, with her handwritten personal commentary about the trip on the back.

The book is subtitled "Miscellaneous chapters on ancient Egyptian history and archaeology," and several photographic plates and illustrations are featured throughout.
