THE TREE OF LIFE: A STUDY IN MAGIC. By Israel Regardie — 1st Edition, 1932. SIGNED BY AUTHOR to Famous Astrologer Gabriel Dee
Book Details + Condition: Israel Regardie's THE TREE OF LIFE: A STUDY IN MAGIC. Signed by Regardie, with an inscription to Gabriel Dee on the front endpaper. Dee was a well-known London astrologer in the 1930s. She advertised regularly in "The Occult Review", offering astrological readings, although she also gave lessons in astrology, numerology, the occult use of gems and perfumes, etc., and apparently acted as some sort of "occult supplier" selling talismans, incense and other "magical requisites." She was acquainted with Aleister Crowley - her name appears several times in his diaries for 1929. It was through Crowley she met Israel Regardie, who went on to become a good friend of hers. Published by Rider & Co. (London). Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, b&w frontis, illustrated, color plates. The first edition of Regardie's comprehensive exposition of magic. The work draws heavily from the Golden Dawn (and other) material published in Crowley's "Equinox" series. The first edition is notoriously fragile; it is bound in a very light, fine cloth, that has a tendency to split at the joints. The joints of this copy are solid, the inner hinges a little slack but intact. Tight binding; bumped and rubbed corners; light shelfwear to boards; text is clean and unmarked save small bookseller label and pasted-in image of Horus on inside front board. Please see Table of Contents for specific topics covered in this celebrated work of magick.
