Book Details + Condition: A.C. Armstrong & Son (New York, NY). 1884. Hardcover. Vol I: 499 pages with frontis portrait and several folding sheets; Vol II: 575 pages; Vol III: 536 pages; Vol IV: 570 pages; Vol V: 576 pages; Vol VI: 571 pages. All volumes illustrated by well known American artist and illustrator Frederick Stuart Church (1842-1924), and with three etchings by Robert Swain Gifford (1840-1905), a notable American printmaker and landscape artist. Complete in 6 volumes, comprising the poems and stories of acclaimed American gothic fiction author Edgar Allan Poe, with an introduction and memoir by American literary critic Richard Henry Stoddard. Volumes contain illustrations and fold-out pages of reproduced letters from Poe to associates. Blue cloth clovers to each, with embossed gilt lettering to spine. All volumes have firm binding (1 or 2 vols with cracked interior hinges); rubbed corners and edges; light wear to original boards; chipping to spine ends (apparently common with this edition); clean interiors, save some periodic toning and names (from 1890) to front endpaper.
